No special electrical box is required. The 4.75" W x 4.75" H backplate is generously sized to completely cover a standard 4-inch round or octagonal wall junction box. However, because the backplate has straight edges and the fixture itself is very tall, we highly recommend using a small hand level during installation. You want to ensure the mounting crossbar is perfectly straight before tightening the final screws, as even a slight tilt will be visually exaggerated by the fixture's 26-inch height.
